The Seafood Processing DET pilot program will run for 6 months where learners will undergo in-school training and in-company training aimed to produce trainees/graduates as Seafood Production Workers and Quality Inspectors with partner academe Salazar Colleges of Science and Institute of Technology (SCSIT) and University of Cebu (UC) mainly UCLM campus for the in-school training, together with partner companies, Central Seafoods, Inc., Phil-Union Frozen Foods, Inc., and Siargao's Bounty Seafoods, Corp where the learners will undergo the in-company training.

The School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership and Service (SKILLS) is offering free work readiness and skills training to 125 out-of-school youths who are 18-24 years old, male and female, physically fit, and residents of Cebu City. This initiative is funded by USAID through the Education Development Center under the USAID Opportunity 2.0 project.
1.What is USAID Opportunity 2.0?
USAID Opportunity 2.0 is a five-year program designed to provide quality education and learning experiences to Out-of-School Youth (OSY). The program nurtures the habit of lifelong learning that would improve education, livelihood, and employment opportunities for OSY. The program is funded by USAID and implemented in the Philippines by the Education Development Center in partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). In Cebu, the School of Knowledge for Industrial Labor, Leadership and Service (SKILLS) is one of the grantees of Opportunity 2.0. SKILLS targets to train 125 OSY from Cebu City. The training will start in July 2021 until April 2022.
2. What are the commitments and responsibilities of the Youth Trainee?
The Youth Trainee must be committed to complete the training which runs from 4 to 6 months. During the duration of the training, trainee and their parents or guardians must agree to fully participate by avoiding tardiness and absences. Trainees are strongly discouraged from dropping out. After the training, trainees must be committed to pursue employment or higher education. SKILLS is working with companies who will host the trainee during hands-on training and absorb them as employees once they are certified. Before training starts, qualified applicants will sign a memorandum of agreement with SKILLS.

A. What is In-company Trainers Training?
In-company training is a means of ensuring that employees acquire skills and enhance performance by focusing on practical aspects of work. It is the training of employees of a company or students of an institution conducted by employees in the company or workplace institution. It covers all trainings conducted inside the company, by experienced staff, be it retraining of existing staff, training of new employees, on-the job training, or training of apprentices and interns. The trainers could be the current employees, trainers, workers or any other staff involved in training, teaching, or mentoring another staff. Without an In-Company Trainer, there would be no proper guidance, no proper implementation of the training plan and no person for the trainee to refer to in the development of his learning journey.
